San Mateo County supports Gov. Newsom's gun control amendment (KRON) -- San Mateo County is the first California county to declare support for Gov. Gavin Newsom's plan to add a 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. That amendment would raise the federal minimum age to buy a gun from 18 years old to 21 years old. It would also mandate universal background checks and require a longer waiting period before purchasing a firearm. In addition, the amendment would ban civilians from buying assault weapons. DC police officer guilty of sexually abusing 9-year-old girl for 2 years A D.C. police officer accused of sexually abusing a young girl, beginning when she was 9-years-old, was found guilty Tuesday of multiple counts of child abuse.Charles Johnson, 29, of D.C. was convicted Tuesday after prosecutors found sexually abused a young girl who he lived with who was nine and 10 years old at the time of the assaults, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.Johnson joined D.C. police in 2019 and was placed on administrative leave from his First District assignment after being arrested last summer.
